This course gets you making authentic blues sounds on a harmonica, fast. We start with choosing the right harp and holding it correctly, then move into breath control, clean single notes, the 12-bar form, and classic chugging rhythms. You’ll learn foundational riffs, call-and-response phrasing, vibrato, and the first bends you actually need, all explained in bite-size lessons with tabs and slow demos.

Along the way, you’ll practice second-position (cross-harp) playing, turnarounds, and tasteful fills, then plug into jam tracks so you can improvise with confidence. We’ll touch on mic and amp basics, simple recording on your phone, and care and tuning tips. By the end, you’ll be ready to sit in at an open jam, spice up an acoustic duo, add hooks to your songs, or just unwind with a pocket-sized instrument that sounds great anywhere.

I’m Ben Hewlett, a harmonica player and educator with deep roots in the blues. Over many years of gigging, recording, and teaching, I’ve helped players of all levels unlock the soulful sounds of the harp—focusing on feel, phrasing, and the traditions that shaped the music. My teaching style is practical, encouraging, and grounded in real-world playing.
